Stage 1

Camprodon valley

We set out from the capital town of the Camprodon valley, and we finish in the heart of High Vallespir, trekking over hills with sweeping panoramic views until we reach the Ulldeter Peaks, and climbing down to the heartlands of High Garrotxa. We’ll cross the border through the Ares Pass, where we’ll begin our exploration of the thick forests on the northern side of the Pyrenees, always with the Mountain Canigó beckoning in front of us.

Stage 2

High Vallespir

From the Sanctuary of Coral we’ll walk through woods of beech, birch, and fir. We will be discovering the small hamlets of La Menera, the southernmost village in France, and Torres de Cabrenç, three spectacular watchtowers which once dominated the region of High Vallespir from south to north. Sant Llorenç de Cerdans is another small hamlet with an important part in the Republican Withdrawal of the year 39.

Stage 3

Salinas range

The following stage takes us through hilly terrain in the heartlands of High Empordà and Vallespir, and climbs up the highest trails of the Salines hills and the Frausa rock. Also, the spectacular beech woods above the Sanctuary of Salines are very worth exploring. Cabrera Castle is the last landmark of this stage, offering views you will not want to miss.

Stage 4

Le Perthús

We start our morning in the Hostal dels Trabucaires de Les Illes, the very same inn that hosted republican presidents Companys, Azaña, and Aguirre during their journey through the pass of Lli in 1939. Here, the Mediterranean landscape starts taking over the Atlantic woods. Oaks and cork trees blend with fresh beech woods and lithe fir trees.

Stage 5

Albère range

From Neulós Hill to Sallafort Peak, a long ridge offers panoramic views on either side, from the plains of Rosselló to the plains of l’Empordà, as well as a glimmer of Mediterranean blue in the near horizon. Tramuntana, the North wind, has shaped this landscape, which will lead us to the balcony where the Pyrenees end, in a beautiful descent towards Cotlliure, the jewel of the Red Coast.
